Border Olympics, Inc., a chartered non-profit organization, had its humble beginnings as a part of Laredo's Washington's Birthday Celebration on February 21, 1932. The first five track meets were known as the International Frontier Olympics, which were headed by a chairman of the Olympics Committee, one of the many committees within the Washington's Birthday Celebration Association (WBCA). The meets were attended by university, college and high school students from all over the State of Texas and from Mexico.
Shortly thereafter, the track meet became large enough to separate from the WBCA and organize as a separate entity with its own Board of Directors, slate of officers and charter. The new organization was named the Border Olympics, Inc. In 1947, the first meet was scheduled for the first weekend of March... and has been the same weekend since. With the addition of high school boys' and girls' tournament, Border Olympics now hosts high school boys' and girls' soccer, tennis, golf, baseball, and softball tournaments.
