The Washington's Birthday Celebration
Founded in 1898 by the Improved Order of the Red Men, the WBCA is the largest celebration of its kind in the United States with approximately 400,000 attendees annually. The first celebration was a phenomenal success and its success and popularity grew rapidly. The celebration includes parades, a carnival, an air show, fireworks, live concerts and many other fun and exciting events for every member of the family. One of its main events, the Jalapeno Festival, has recently been named one of the United States' top 10 eating festivals due to its Jalapeno Eating Contest.
Laredo International Sister Cities Festival
Cities around the world have taken note of Laredo, with many seeking sister-city relationships with the Gateway City. Starting in 1848, Laredo entered into its first sister-city relationship with Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, just directly across the Rio Grande. Since then, other cities form Mexico and some from other parts of the world have embraced Laredo as their sister. The City of Laredo invites the world to partake in the Eighth International Festival of Sister Cities in 2010.
Laredo Birding Festival
This annual event gets nature lovers access to locations never before seen. Along the way, trip leaders will point out great South Texas flora and fauna. The festival is slated for February every year thanks to Laredo's mild winter weather. The event is brought to you by the Laredo Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Monte Mucho Audobon Society.
