At the TAMIU Planetarium we realize that science has a critical role to play in the lives of the residents of Laredo and the South Texas Region. Future careers will be increasingly technologically oriented. All residents need to be informed and empowered in the fields of science and technology to individually and collectively embrace the opportunities available.
The vision of the Planetarium at TAMIU is that this region will, through science literacy and capability, achieve industrial and economic growth and high employment, and its residents will enjoy the consequent social benefits. The culture of science will become as integrated into peoples' lives as the culture of sport.
Education is the main purpose of the Planetarium at TAMIU and we strongly believe that everyone should have access to the Planetarium. Please contact us at planetarium@tamiu.edufor more details.

Away from the hustle and bustle of the downtown area on the campus of Laredo Community College, this oasis offers a learning experience about plants and animals found in the Rio Grande Watershed. Four outdoor ponds feature a breeding pair of American alligators in one area, large gar, catfish and bass in another, one with five species of turtles, and another featuring a wetland area where young alligators are placed. The planted area includes more than 50 types of native vegetation numbered for easy identification. A cactus garden, wildflower hill, and two areas of South Texas brush plants can also be examined. Indoors, species of fish, amphibians, reptiles and rodents are displayed in aquaria and terraria. On Laredo Community College Campus at West End Washington St.
