Next up in Laredo Film Society’s Study Hall series is ¡MALDITO CINE! Celebrate Hispanic
Heritage Month + spooky season with a deep-dive into 4 Mexican gothic movies! The fourth
and final session of this series will be held on Thursday, October 8th. Doors open at 7:00 p.m.
and we’ll begin at 8:00 p.m.
What is LFS Study Hall, you may be asking? LFS Study Halls are deep-dive screening series
grounded in criticism, analysis, history, and mythology, where we’ll explore films not just as
standalone works, but as cultural artifacts within a broader social, political, and historical
context, a living record of their time.
This session’s film features the directional feature debut of everyone’s favorite film tío! An
elderly antiques dealer finds a hellish device with crazy powers.
PLUS, an after party to follow to close out ¡MALDITO CINE! – featuring the latest
concert/documentary film about a certain 80s new wave group who loves enjoying the silence,
directed by an award-winning Mexican director. It blends concert footage with archival footage
and cultural interstitials to explore themes of music, mortality, and Mexican traditions
